Shop the Vendors at Fire Company Sale

Crafts, jewelry, gourmet food on the bill at Fire Company No. 2's sale.

 

The holidays aren't for another month or two, but beating lines is forever.

It's true. Why wait on long lines, push through crowded malls and pick through gone-over racks? Instead, the Ladies Auxiliary from Hillsborough Fire Company No. 2 offers another option, in the form of a vender fair.

With jewelry (perfect for moms, sisters, girlfriends, wives), gourment food (foodies, anyone?), sports memorabilia (for the sports fan in your family), pottery, make up and more, there's something for everyone on the gift list.

 

Dance for the Cure Zumba Benefit
When/Where: 7 p.m. at Kathleen Academy of Dance, 411 US Highway 206, Hillsborough
Why Go: To experience the dance-based workout, burn calories and raise money for local charity Dance for the Cure
Cost: A $10 donation is requested at the door.

Two Family Yard Sale
When/Where: 8 a.m. Saturday, 3 Dumont Round, Hillsborough.
Why Go: Because there will be books, wicker baskets, stuffed animals and toys on sale.
Cost: Bring your wallet.

Hillsborough Volunteer Fire Co. No. 2 Vendor Sale
When/Where: 10 a.m. Saturday, at Volunteer Fire Company No. 2, 375 US Highway 206, Hillsborough
Why Go: To peruse vendors offering jewelry, hand crafted jewelry, embroidered items and clothes, knitted products, home and garden products, candles and more.
Cost: Admission is free, but you’ll want to bring your wallet for purchases.

National Feral Cat Day Fun Fair
When/Where: 10 a.m. Saturday, at Belle Mead Animal Hospital, 872 US Highway 206, Hillsborough
Why Go: There’s games, food, face painting, prizes, information booths and kitten adoptions.
Cost: Admission is free, but donations of cat food are welcome.

Martinsville Volunteer Fire Company Open House
Where/When: At the fire company on Washington Valley Road in Bridgewater from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday
Why Go: To learn about the fire company, as well as fire safety, activities and a chance to see the fire equipment itself.
Cost: Free

Kreate: Kids Art Class
When/Where: Noon Saturday, at Kreative Kids Art and Music Academy, 4 Jill Court, building 22, Hillsborough.
Why Go: Because your kids will be able to create any type of art during an open art class. Paint, clay, coored pencils and more will be provided. Contact Kreative Kids at 908-431-4439 by 10 a.m. Saturday to let them know you’re coming.
Cost: $15

American Veterans Traveling Tribute
Where/When: At North Branch Park in Bridgewater, the exhibit opens at 1 p.m. Thursday, and remains open 24 hours a day through 3 p.m. Sunday.
Why Go: To see a smaller replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington D.C., as well as to honor veterans of the way through ceremonies, wreath-layings and other exhibits.
Cost: Free

Friends of Somerset Regional Animal Shelter Heart & Sole Shelter Walk
Where/When: At Duke Island Park, beginning at 10 a.m. Saturday with registration
Why Go: Walkers are encouraged to get pledges to raise money for the animal shelter, and they may walk with or without a dog. Those who raise $75 or more will receive a free t-shirt. The walk is about 3 miles in length.
Cost: $20 in advance, $25, kids under 16 are free. Dogs are $5.

Parents’ Night Out
When/Where: 6 p.m. Saturday at Brancburg Sports Center, 47 Readington Road, Branchburg.
Why Go: Because you can drop off the kids for a few hours of games and fun, and have a night out.
Cost: Free.

Tony N' Tina's Wedding
Where/When: Maggiano's at 600 Commons Way in Bridgewater from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. Saturday
Why Go: To see the wildest wedding as guests interact with he characters, watch the couple tie the knot and partake in a family-style reception afterward.
Cost: Call 215-297-8540 for ticket information.

Ballroom Dance Social
When/Where: 8 p.m. Saturday at G&J Studios, 15 Jill Court, Hillsborough
Why Go: For a great night out. Partners are not required.
Cost:  $15

"Salute to Horse Power," 14th annual classic car and motorcycle show
When/Where: The show opens at 9 a.m. and lasts until 3 p.m.on Sunday with judging mid-day. On the grounds of Lord Stirling Stable, a county park at 256 S. Maple Ave. in Basking Ridge.
Why Go: You can either admire classic cars or motorcycles for a modest admission, or show off your own metal horsepower at Lord Stirling Stable in the hopes of winning a trophy. Refreshments, Pony rides for the younger set. Benefits The Friends of Lord Stirling Stable.
Price: $2 entry fee, or $10 vehicle entry donation if pre-registered and $15 the day of the event, including entry for all in party.

Hauntings in the Somerset Hills: Fact or Fiction?
When/Where: The exhibit by The Historical Society of Somerset Hills opens this Sunday, Oct. 9, and runs every Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. during October at the Brick Academy, 15 W. Oak St., in Basking Ridge.
Why Go: Besides learning more about the history of some local places, you may be intrigued to hear and see exhibits about some of the history that still may be among us. Do you remember Phyllis, in search of her lost love? Or elegant but haunting Blairsden? You decide if you believe. Some of these places aren't even usually open during the rest of the year.
Price: Free

Thanks for the reminder about the Hillsborough Fire Co. vendor sale. I always drive by the sign for them, but I can never seem to remember when they are. My daughter and I love going to vendor sales and fairs.
