The Hillsborough High School boys track and field team finished second behind Franklin on Saturday at the 50th annual Somerset County Relays. The Raiders scored in all but two events, but it was not enough to overcome Franklin.
The Raiders' only win of the day came in the last event of the meet, the 4x400-meter relay. The quartet of Sam Weinstein, Matt Leddy, Randy Gacek and Mike Shipley combined for a time of 3:28.3.
The Raider 4x100, 4x200, sprint medley, triple jump and javelin relay teams all placed second.
RAIDER OF THE MEET
Mike Shipley—anchored the winning 4x400 (51.0), the second-place sprint medley relay (2:02.9), and the third-place 4x800 (1:58.9).
OTHER KEY PERFORMANCES
Rob Perez improved on his triple jump from last week setting a new personal best of 41-½.
THEY SAID IT
“It was a very long day but I’m pretty happy with my splits. I was originally scheduled to also anchor the 4x200 by my legs were pretty dead after the two 800 meter legs so coach held me out to just anchor the 4x4.”—Mike Shipley talking about his long day at the track.
