See Fire Trucks, Demos at Company's Open House

Volunteer Fire Company No. 3 hosts its annual Fire Prevention Open House this weekend.

October means fire prevention month, and a day of fire awarness at Hillsborough Volunteer Fire Company No. 3.

The company hosts its annual open house this Saturday, where residents can see the company's trucks, witness live fire demonstrations and learn safety tips from the firefighters.

The event features music, fun, food, and—most importantly—safety information for children.

Here's what's happening this weekend:

Friends of the Library Book Sale
When/Where: From 9:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m on Thursday and from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Friday at the Bridgewater Township Library.
Why Go: To pick up some great titles while benefitting the library. 
Pricing: Pricing varies.

A Special Night of Ridge Football
When/Where: At 7 p.m. on Friday at Lee Field at Ridge High School in Basking Ridge.
Why Go: Because it's a special night of honoring children with special needs as the Red Devils Boys Varsity Football team competes against Phillipsburg High School on home turf. 
Pricing: Free admission to special needs football fans. Pre-registered children will receive shirts. All ages can attend with their families on the game day without registration.

Dave Ramsy Business Leadership Simulcast
When/Where: From 9:45 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday at Stonecrest Community Church in Warren.
Why Go: Because it's a live simulcast seminar with author and radio host Dave Ramsey on how to lead a team and grow a business using Biblical principles of finance and management.
Pricing: $39 registration fee. Boxed lunch $6. Registration required.

Wompy's World of Musical Play
When/Where: At 10 a.m. on Friday at The Warren Township Library in Warren.
Why Go: Because children ages 6 months to 3 years old will enjoy puppets, props, and musical instruments during this interactive musical theater class. Caregivers are welcome to join in the fun.
Pricing: Free. Registration required.

Stories and Songs
When/Where: At 10 a.m. on Friday at Hillsborough Public Library.
Why Go: For children ages 2 to 6 to enjoy interactive stories and musical activities with library friends. 
Pricing: Free. Registration required.

"Cactus Flower"
When/Where: At 8 p.m. on Friday and Saturdays and at 2 p.m. on Sunday at the Villagers Theatrein Somerset.
Why Go: It's your last chance to see this prickly comedy about unexpected love.
Pricing: $16 for adults, $14 for seniors and students.

Knit and Crochet Extravaganza
When/Where: From 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday at the Bernards Township Library in Basking Ridge.
Why Go: To come and relax while learning new techniques such as duplicate stitching, crochet, seaming, fair isle and more. So bring your own needles, hooks, yarn, and passion and enjoy a great afternoon of amazing door prizes and refreshments with the company of other crafters. 
Pricing: Free.   

Bye, Bye Butterfly Program
When/Where: At 2 p.m. on Saturday at Environmental Education Center at Lord Stirling Park in Basking Ridge.
Why Go: For families and all ages to bid farewell to the butterfly for the season. Learn where they go for the cold weather and all about their lifecycles.
Pricing: Free. Registration required. 

Warren Township Beautification and Clean Up Day
When/Where: At 9 a.m. on Saturday at the Warren Township Municipal Complex in Warren.
Why Go: To volunteer some time and "elbow grease" and help keep Warren beautiful.
Pricing: Free. 

Learn About the Master of Suspense
When/Where: At 2 p.m. on Saturday at Warren Township Library in Warren.
Why Go: To watch classic scenes from Rear Window, North by Northwest, Psycho, and The Birdsand see why Alfred Hitchcock is the master of suspense. 
Pricing: Free. Registration required.

Learn About Solar Power
When/Where: From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday at Central Moving Systems in Bridgewater.
Why Go: To learn to save green by going green. Talk to a Alteris Renewables solar expert and learn more about solar power during this national solar tour.
Pricing: Free admission. 

Build Your Own Fire Rescue Helicopter
When/Where: At 9 a.m. on Saturday at The Home Depot in Bridgewater.
Why Go: Because kids ages 5 to 12 can build their own fire rescue helicopters and earn a sense of accomplishment.
Pricing: Free. Registration required.

U.S. Army Blackhawk Helicopter Landing
When/Where: From 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday at Central Jersey Regional Airport in Hillsborough.
Why Go: To step inside a Blackhawk helicopter, sit at the controls, and get your picture taken with Somerset County resident Tony Gianno, who pilots this workhorse of the U.S. military. It's a kid-friendly event that benefits Operation Shoebox and our troops.
Pricing: Free. Donations gratefully accepted. 

Catoberfest and Silent Auction
When/Where: From 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at Tabby's Place in Ringoes.
Why Go: It's a "purrfect" day filled with activities, live music, pet behavior classes and even a blessing of the animals. A silent auction with offerings of getaways to locales like Sedona and Cape Cod help benefit this sanctuary for rescued and hopeless situation cats.
Pricing: Free admission.

Open House at Hillsborough Volunteer Fire Company #3
When/Where: From noon to 4 p.m. on Saturday at Hillsborough Volunteer Fire Co. No. 3 in Hillsborough.
Why Go: To bring the whole family to see all of the fire trucks and live fire demonstrations. There will be music and refreshments and an appearance by Sparkee, the Patriots Mascot. Learn about the importance of fire and its dangers in a fun and educational setting among neighbors. It's a great time for everyone.
Pricing: Free. 

1770s Living History Festival
When/Where: From 10:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Sunday at the Environmental Education Center at Lord Stirling Park in Basking Ridge.
Why Go: To step back in time to the Colonial period. Costumed period re-enactors will ply their trades, a town crier will deliver the daily news, and military detachments will camp and conduct maneuvers. Enjoy fresh apple cider, kids activities and a hay ride, or have your picture taken in Colonial costume while restrained to the Somerset Gaoler's wooden stock.
Pricing: $4 donation suggested. 

Hauntings in the Somerset Hills Exhibit
When/Where: From 2 to 4 p.m. on Sunday at The Historical Society of The Somerset Hills in Basking Ridge.
Why Go: To sort out fact and fiction of amazing historical photographs and prints of The Vealtown Tavern and the Blairsden Estate. Pick up a copy of a "Ghosts of Central Jersey" signed by the author or just dare to be intrigued.
Pricing: Free admission. Signed book prices vary.

Historic Codington Farmstead Tour
When/Where: From 1 to 4 p.m. on Sunday at the Codington Farmstead in Warren.
Why Go: To tour the house that represents three centuries of the Codington family and get an insight into farm life from the Colonial era to the 20th Century.
Pricing: Free.

Wedding Party Event
When/Where: From 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Sunday at Crate and Barrel in Bridgewater.
Why Go: To learn how to create the wedding of your dreams. Consult with wedding experts, choose your dream registry and enjoy complimentary food and drinks.

Angry Bird Hike
When/Where: From 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Sunday at Washington Valley Park in Bridgewater.
Why Go: To join the New Jersey Young Professionals in a hike to witness the migration of wildlife while socializing and meeting new friends. 
Pricing: Members $5 to $20, Non-members $20. Registration required.
