Remodelers Group Presents Aurora Kitchens with CotY Award
Hillsborough resident and business partner Kolbe Clark notes winning project's benefits.
Aurora Kitchens & Interiors of Somerville took home a prestigious “Contractor of the Year” award from the Central Jersey Chapter of the National Association of the Remodeling Industry for excellence in design and workmanship.
At its Evening of Excellence Awards Dinner at Maggiano’s Little Italy, in Bridgewater, on Jan. 25, the Association presented one of its coveted annual Contractor of the Year (CotY) Awards to Aurora for a difficult remodeling project in the “Residential Interior Under $100,000” Category.
All entries were scored by an independent panel of judges in six separate areas: client satisfaction, functionality, aesthetics, craftsmanship, innovation and degree of difficulty. This year’s entries were judged by a team of members of the North Jersey Chapter of NARI.
“The project basically involved a complete redesign of the entire first floor of the house,” Branchburg resident Kelley Evens, senior designer and a partner in Aurora Kitchens and Interiors, said. “With three young children, the layout was all wrong for their lifestyle. The goal was to make it feel homier.”
Prior to the beginning of the project, the homeowners decided to reassign the use of each room. The formal living room, which was not conducive to their lifestyle, became the family room. The formal dining room became the music/sitting room and the family room became the dining room.
“Our objective was to make the entire first floor more cohesive” says Evens. That included rearranging the furniture to make TV watching more comfortable for the entire family.
The kitchen was also reconfigured. The range and refrigerator were relocated for better flow. New 42-inch high cabinets replaced 30-inch cabinets to provide additional storage.
“These changes not only made the kitchen more attractive, but much more functional as well,” Hillsborough resident Kolbe Clark, senior designer and a partner in Aurora Kitchens and Interiors, said.
“New lighting, a hardwood floor throughout the entire first floor, a complementary color palette, and lots of neat accessories provided the finishing touches that unified the entire space,” says Clark. A description of the project, complete with before and after photographs, can be seen on the Central Jersey NARI website at www.cjnari.com.
