Poll: Should the Bypass be Renamed for Pete Biondi?

State moves to dedicate bypass, but some say it's too much.

A bill introduced by local representatives, including State Sen. Christopher "Kip" Bateman, R-Somerset, and Assembly members Jack Ciattarelli, R-Hillsborough, and Donna Simon, R-Flemington, to rename the Route 206 bypass in Hillsborough in honor of Pete Biondi is advancing through the legislature.

With the measure's progress, it appears likely to easily pass—and understandably so: Biondi was a popular and well-liked member of the Assembly before his death in 2011, and many in the Capitol undoubtedly have fond memories of him.

His contribution to Hillsborough is certainly impressive as well, shepherding the township through a period of tremendous growth.

But some note the township has already rededicated the municipal complex in his honor, and say the township should recognize others—on our Facebook pageJohn Andreychak suggests dedicating the bypass in honor of U.S. Army Lt. Ashley Henderson, a Montgomery High School graduate killed while serving in Iraq in 2006.

What do you think? Should the bypass be renamed in honor of Biondi? Or do you think someone else deserves such an honor? Take our poll and add your comments in the space below.

As I previously posted, Mr. Biondi already has the Municipal Building named after him. It would be nice to name the new 206 Bypass the "Woods Tavern Bypass", an historic name that still appears on many maps.

Its hard to argue against an honor for someone since it makes you sound mean...so the proper argument here is instead in favor of honoring others. Just as the poll properly offers, there are others deserving and the Municipal Complex renaming is more than a worthy enough honor for any one person.

Check out this Link. She has given everything. Most Politicians don't even know who she is. I do and I thank her for her service.

Nothing against Mr Biondi. I think he is very deserving. HOWEVER, lets wait until the darn thing is completed. I suspect there is a VERY deserving person who, in all likelihood is not yet born, that will be far more deserving of accolades relative to the completion of this road.

The 206 by-pass will never be built. Perhaps in 5-6 years the bastardized version of the by-pass will be built, but our elected officials got taken to the woodshed by Montgomery and state cut it in half. The current by-pass design is a joke and will not help traffic much at all.

The name belongs to Senator Walter Kavanaugh as he was the one to start and fight for the project. Biondi was just the last to add his name to it.

I want to see if residents still want to name the bypass after him after the Gateway at Sunnymead 768 unit development's traffic starts to hit local roads. Dealing done behind closed doors, left the twsp open to builder's lawsuits for not meeting Mt Laural obligations, the lists go on. Don't complain when you're all stuck in traffic
