Police Patrols Are Talk of the Town

We asked our friends on Hillsborough Patch's Facebook page what they are talking to their neighbors about.
Diane Jones said she has been talking to her neighbors and friends about why so many local businesses come and go.
"I've been here since 1976 and we don't seem to be able to keep our businesses going," she wrote. "They all pick up and leave."
Do you support local businesses? Have you been talking up a local shop lately? Tell us in the comments box.
A reader sent a note asking about police patrols, noting she's been seeing a lot more cars patrolling or stopping drivers in recent weeks—which sparked a lot of conversation on our Facebook page. Some said they haven't noticed any changes, but quite a few said they've noticed more police and were glad of it.
"It needs to be done because the 'not stopping for stop signs' is getting out of control and very dangerous," he wrote. "The texting is even out of control."
Cristen Depper Hoagland also said she's noticed more police on the roads.
"Kinda nice seeing what your taxes pay for," she wrote. "After the recent accidents, daytime burglaries and upcoming nicer weather, I expected to see an increase in presence."
What do you think? Have you noticed more police patrolling—or do you think it's about the same?

Yes there has been an increase in police presence. I see alot more cars being pulled over as well. In return, this is generating more money for the township which is helping pay for the extra patrols. Hillsborough is a big area to cover and it's refreshing to see more out and about all over. Again, just having the patrols out and about is a deterrent to crime as well. Thank you Hillsborough Twp. police officers for your extra effort to make our streets safer!

I live near the high school. Every year when the weather gets warmer, our new drivers feel the urge to drive way too fast on their way to places like AVM Park. There are even informal drag races. Parents, please mention to your kids that this is a very bad idea and very dangerous. The neighborhoods around the high school and the park have small children, animals and just regular pedestrians who would all like to live to see another day. My neighbors and I welcome increased police presence in the spring to help curb what I call "spring-fever speeding". And, adults, when you're running late to bring your children to sport practices, PLEASE don't speed through these same neighborhoods! Take it easy and be a minute late. 25 mph speed limits are set for a reason.

I am very happy to see them on east mountain rd. I live on that road and most cars speed. Seeing the patrols may stop them.
