Parades, Workshops, Markets Top Weekend Activities

This weekend's activities cater to a variety of interests.

 

Looking for something to do over the long weekend?  Whether you're looking for parades, crafts, sales or workshops, area activities have you covered.

Hats & Purses Exhibition
Where/When: 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday at the Morris Museum in Morristown.
Why Go: You’re interested in seeing over 100 artifacts from the museum's costume collection, ranging from the 18th to 20th centuries.
Pricing: Free.

Warhol and Cars: American Icons
Where/When: Friday, Saturday and Sunday from noon to 5 p.m. at the Montclair Art Museum
Why Go: Because the exhibit will have 35 to 40 works on load for the Warhol Museum in Pittsburgh.
Pricing: Free.

All-Abilities Run
Where/When: 9 a.m. on Saturday at the Morristown Running Company.
Why Go: To start off your Saturday with a 5-mile group run and finish it off with a free bagel.
Pricing: Free.

Live Music at Zebu Forno
Where/When: From 7 to 9 p.m. on Saturday at Zebu Forno in Morristown.
Why Go: To spend your Saturday night enjoying some nice live music.
Pricing: Free (BYOB).

Pleasant Valley Pool Opening Day
When/Where: Saturday, May 28, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Bernards Township Pleasant Valley Park.
Why Go: To splash around and celebrate the 32nd opening day of the Pleasant Valley Pool. Watch out for piranhas!
Pricing: Memberships for Bernards Township residents are still available.  

"Jack Benny" Trail Ride
When/Where: Sunday, May 29 at 1 p.m. at Lord Stirling Park Riding Stable in Basking Ridge.
Why Go: Seniors can enjoy a "walk-only" trail ride and enjoy the beautiful trails of the Lord Stirling Park Stables.
Pricing: The fee is $28 for Somerset County residents and $36 for non-residents.  

The Cabaret
When/Where: Thursday, May 26th at 7 p.m. at Ridge High School in Basking Ridge.
Why Go: Because the talents of the concert choir always hit a high note.
Pricing: $10 per ticket.

Blues and Wine Festival 
When/Where: Saturday, May 28 and Sunday, May 29 from noon to 5 p.m. at Natirar Estate Park in Far Hills.
Why Go: To raise you glass to great blues music, crafts and fine wines from New Jersey wineries. Attendees must be age 21 and older.
Pricing: $20.

Preserve the Harvest
When/Where: Thursday, May 26 at 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., or 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., at the Ted Blum 4-H Center in Bridgewater.
Why Go: To learn how to preserve your garden harvest.
Pricing: $5 per person.  

Michael's Miracles in Motion Family Bike-A-Thon 
When/Where: Saturday, May 28 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Duke Island Park in Bridgewater.
Why Go: For a full day of family fun raising funds and awareness of juvenile diabetes.
Pricing: Free.  

Dawn Patrol Motorcycle Club Memorial Day Classic
When/Where: Sunday, May 29, at 9 a.m., at Bradley Gardens Fire Department in Bridgewater.
Why Go: It's a 60-mile run through Somerset and Hunterdon Counties that ends with a classic pig roast, games, and music.
Pricing: $15.  

Scout Day at TD BallPark
When/Where: Sunday, May 29 at 1:35 p.m. at TD Bank BallPark in Bridgewater.
Why Go: Because Sparkee at the Somerset Patriots are honoring all scouts and their leaders with a pre-game parade. Come dressed in uniform and pride!
Pricing: $7 to $15 per ticket.

 "Salute to Veterans" Breakfast and Memorial Day Parade
When/Where: Saturday, May 28 at Hilllsborough Municipal Complex.  A veterans' breakfast is at 8:30 a.m. The parade steps off at 10:30 a.m.
Why Go: To honor our veterans and show our national pride.
Pricing: Free.  

The Fragrant Garden 
When/Where: Thursday, May 26 from 7 to 8:15 p.m. at the Warren Township Library.
Why Go: To learn how to choose flowers and shrubs for their fragrance and beauty as well as how to keep them safe from pests.
Pricing: Free. Registration required.  

Washington Valley Fire Co. Flea Market
When/Where: Sunday, May 29 from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Washington Valley Fire Company in Warren.
Why Go: To stop by for a great buy and find that perfect "something" you have been searching for.
Pricing: Free admission.

Tour of Somerville Cycling Series
When/Where:
  May 28 through 30, through the streets of Somerville.
Why Go: It's the "Kentucky Derby of Cycling"  Family and kid activities, music and more await you at the finish line. 
Pricing: Free.

Somerville Memorial Day Parade
When/Where: 
 Monday, May 30 on Somerville's Main Street. The parade begins at 9 a.m. The Kid's Pavilion as well as the sports and music festival activities are from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Why Go: To say "thank you" to our veterans, and to keep in step with a live music festival.
Pricing: Free.

Bernards Township Memorial Day Parade
When/Where:
 Monday, May 30 at 9:30 a.m. at Liberty Corner Fire Company in Bernards Township.
Why Go:  To wave a flag, thank a veteran, and show your pride. Besides, everyone loves a parade.
Pricing:  Free.

GRAB & GO KIDS PLANNER 

The Green Team
When/Where: Saturday, May 28 from 1 to 4 p.m. at Lord Stirling Park, Environmental Education Center in Bernards Township.
Why Go: For children ages 12 to 15 to fulfill community service requirements for school.
Pricing: Free.  

Splish Splash, It's a Bible Bash!
When/Where: Sunday, May 29 at 9:30 a.m. at Bishop Janes United Methodist Church in Bernards Township.
Why Go: For children pre-K to grade three to enjoy activities, crafts, games and an understanding of the spiritual messages of the Bible.
Pricing: Free.  

Toddler Time
When/Where: Thursday, May 26 from 10:30 to 11 a.m. at the Bridgewater Township Library.
Why Go: Toddlers ages 18 to 36 months will enjoy story time, singing, and clapping. Parents, no shushing allowed!
Pricing: Free. 

Anime Club 
When/Where: Thursday, May 26 from 5 to 6:30 p.m. at the Hillsborough Public Library.
Why Go: To hang out with friends, make candy sushi, and discuss the latest manga.
Pricing: Free. Registration required.  

Build a Biplane
When/Where: Saturday, May 28 at 10 a.m. at Lowes in Hillsborough.
Why Go: To take flight with a cool project and a soaring sense of accomplishment.
Pricing: Free.  

Wheels and Wind
When/Where:
 Thursday, May 26 from 4 to 4:45 p.m. at the Warren Township Library .
Why Go: Children ages 5 to 8 will enjoy stories, parachutes, and mini-skateboards. No protective gear necessary.
Pricing: Free. Registration required.

Kid's Cuisine Cooking Class
When/ Where:
 Monday, May 30 at PEP Club in Warren. Classes are at noon, 1 p.m., and 4 p.m.
Why Go:  Because potato chicken fingers, apple pie wedge cookies, and smiles are on the menu.
Pricing: $12.50 per class.
