One Road Opens, Another Closes as Bypass Rolls On
A few days after Hillsborough Road re-opens, Homestead Road shut down for six months.

After being closed for about two years, Hillsborough Road between Route 206 and Willow Road re-opened Friday, just days before Homestead Road was shut down for the next six months.
Homestead Road closed Monday between Route 206 and Willow Road as the new Route 206 bypass project continues. Access in this area can be made to and from Stryker Lane, Hillsborough Police said.
The bypass project broke ground in 2010 and is now not expected to be completed until at least 2017, township officials said earlier this month.
The bypass is designed to carry Route 206 around an older stretch of the state roadway to improve traffic flow and to allow the township to create a town center along the old Route 206.

It was sad to drive down Hillsboro Rd now and see a highway going through where there once was a beautiful miniture golf course and batting cages for the kids of the town. My sons birthday party was at that club. I suppose its necessary with all the new homes that are being allowed built in this beautiful once little town.

The miniature golf course, batting cages, and, briefly, the luncheon trailer weren't there very long. Only long enough to say that a business was there before the property was bought out for the bypass.
Without the new homes and increased population, the demographics would not be here to justify locating new businesses.
There is an indoor batting cage business - Central Jersey Sports - around Ilene Court/Stryker Lane area.

The bypass has been planned for nearly 20 years. Nothing to do with the "new" homes.
And, if you don't like all of this building, you can blame the NJ Supreme Court forcing this over-development.

Hummm, 33 years ago I worked in hillsborough 20 years prior to moving here and even then 206 sucked, the bypass has been planned for over 20 years.

Road to nowhere. Should have fixed the "S" curve at the southern end of town and been done with it. Used the money instead for widening route 206, creating better access to existing shopping, improving parking, planting trees and renovating storefronts (with low interest loans), building more parks and recreation facilities, etc. The town center is laughable. Just ask all the store owners in strip shopping centers that have been approved that are NOT in the downtown area. The only people the bypass helps are people who want to avoid our downtown and our businesses. And real estate interests, of course.
