The Sept. 16 performance of Hermann's Original Royal Lipizzan Stallions at Lord Stirling Stable in Basking Ridge.

The county's Lord Stirling Stable in Basking Ridge once again hosted the world famous Hermann's Original Royal Lipizzan Stallions in "Airs Above the Ground Performances" on Friday through Sunday. Nearly 1,000 guests and horse lovers packed the stable's arena for a full house on Sunday afternoon.

The 90-minute show featured a number of different routines performed by the horses.

The stallions were originally trained for battle and would kick the foot soldiers of the opposing army. The Lipizzan Stallions' spectacular leaps and maneuvers were especially designed to inspire fear in the hearts of those enemy foot soldiers.

Accompanying the display was a narrative recounting the history, evolution and contemporary application of the sophisticated and advanced training received by both horse and rider.

"What a beautiful day and a terrific event," program coordinator Nancy Meola said.

Do any of these horses who live at Lord Stirling Stable look familiar to our readers?

Yes, we have seen Rebel and another pony (Jazz maybe?) at the Somerset County Park Commission's summer concerts. They were great.
