Ins & Outs Decorating Focuses on Customer Needs
Business has been operating since 2007.
When having an interior space renovated, it is important to keep the client’s wants and needs for the end result at heart.
“Renovating a space can and should be a good experience for clients,” Maryjo Eckhard, owner and operator of Hillsborough-based Ins & Outs Decorating said. “It is very important to me to create a welcoming space that reflects each client’s individual taste, style and need.”
Since 2007, Eckhard has been doing just that, serving Somerset, Morris and Mercer counties as an interior designer after over 20 years working in advertising and graphic arts.
“Wanting a change and always being interested in design, decorating and construction, I decided to go back to school for Interior Design,” said Eckhard about starting Ins & Outs Decorating. “Doing what you love is so important especially if you are interested in starting your own business. It was the best decision I could have made.”
Since then, Eckhard has made sure that her business has fit right into the landscape of Hillsborough and the surrounding area, partnering with several local businesses—including contractors, plumbers electricians and painters—to set up a network that has been beneficial to all.
“Many of my suppliers and contractors are local to Hillsborough. I’ve established wonderful working relationships with business owners in town,” said Eckhard. “It’s so important to know you can consistently refer your clients to them and have that networking situation be of benefit for everyone involved. Word of mouth is one of the best forms of advertising.”
Ins & Outs Decorating offers clients a wide variety of options for residential or commercial business space, including color consultations, furnishings, flooring and custom window treatments. Regardless of the project, the process begins with a three-hour consultation, where a customer is given suggestions on how to better use their space, including ideas for furniture, accessories and color choices.
“This is for the do-it-yourself type of client,” said Eckhard. “I give them a jumpstart, so to speak. “
The best part of the initial consultation for customers is the fact that it is always free, no matter the project.
“This is my time to meet the client and see their space and listen carefully to what they would like to have done,” said Eckhard of the consultation.
Eckhard performs her consultations and all other meetings with clients by appointment every week from Monday to Saturday. Both daytime and evening appointments are typically made available to prospective customers.
