Ice Cream is a Super Treat at Super Sundaes

Store celebrates 13 years serving ice cream in a family environment.

When someone recently asked Charlotte Anderson how she was doing, she replied, “I’ll be better when I eat some ice cream.”

Then she ordered a scoop of chocolate and a scoop of black raspberry at Super Sundaes and dug in.

Super Sundaes, located at 435 Amwell Road, Suite 3, is celebrating its 13th anniversary this week with a week of special games and giveaways.

“We’ve been able to stay in business because we’ve really encouraged a family environment,” says Jayne Mochnacz, who owns the store with husband Steve. “We’ve grown by adapting and changing with the people in our town.”

In addition to traditional ice cream fare, such as hard and soft serve cones, sundaes and milk shakes, Super Sundaes also offers blended ice cream, blended coffee drinks, Italian ices and a selection of candies. Specialty items include sliders–bite-sized dessert alternatives–, ice cream cupcakes, non-dairy Tofutti, peanut-free and gluten-free selections.

“I keep looking for new ways to help people,” says Jayne.

“I really work hard to know my customers,” stresses Jayne, who regularly addresses customers by name and asks if they’d like “the usual.”

Jayne considers cakes her specialty and proudly points to customers who come back year after year for her custom-decorated cakes. A young lady named Deanna, for example, has had Super Sundaes cakes for the last 13 years and continues to challenge Jayne with pictures for the design.

A former employee at Friendly’s during her teen years, Jayne finds a great deal of joy in decorating cakes. When she first started, it took her two hours to create the “Starry Night” theme cake; now she can do it in 15 minutes.

“Doing makes perfect,” she laughs. “I love finding new techniques.”

The Mochnacz family has been in Hillsborough for 19 years. Over the last 13 years, several ice cream establishments have come and gone.

“You can’t stop competition; in fact, I have to admit it’s a pleasure to see the competition go. But I see competition as my opportunity to ask myself what I can do to get my customers to stay,” she adds.

Community involvement is very important to Jayne and Steve. Super Sundaes works with the schools on a variety of fundraisers, or projects to raise funds for a girl with leukemia.

Jayne is also very proud of . While it does add time to her work schedule to collect, clean and transport the foam containers to a collection site in Pennsylvania, she says, “I just feel better that I am able to help the environment.”

Customers who visit Super Sundaes during this week’s 13th anniversary celebration will be able to participate in a variety of games, daily giveaways and prizes.
