Tis the season to be way too early.
It’s no big secret that I’m kind of theholiday Grinch.
I do not like shoving through malls and crowds of rude and obnoxious people who get angry with store employees (This is why I usually shop at 10 p.m. on a Monday or Tuesday. But this year I did all my shopping while in Boston, so it’s mostly done!). I do not like 90 percent of the pop-music takes on holiday songs. And what's with the decorations that are already up? I usually eat too many Christmas cookies, which I’m actually okay with as long as they’re good cookies.
But there is one other part of the holidays that I do enjoy, and that’s donating to Toys for Tots each year. Not only is it helping those who are less fortunate—adult me can’t imagine kids not opening toys on holiday mornings—but it indulges the child’s thrill about walking through the toy store or toy aisle.
And Hillsborough has two drop-off points for those who wish to donate to the fund—meaning no traveling out-of-town to find a drop point.
You Need to Know It’s For Moms: The Hillsborough Public Library hosts Monday Morning for Moms, a program for parents and caregivers at 10 a.m. today. Children up to three years old are invited to attend, and toys will be provided for them to play. You’ll want to let them know you’re coming, which can be done by calling the children’s desk at 908-369-2200, extension 14.
You Need to Know About Word: The Hillsborough Public Library offers an introduction to Microsoft Word at noon today. It’s part two of a two-part program, and those with their own laptops are encouraged to bring the machines with them.
You Need to Know About Stories: The Hillsborough Public Library hosts a story program aimed at helping kids ages four to six learn to read. The program begins at 1 p.m. and is on forest animals.
You Need to Know Where to Donate: Bright Horizons Childcare hosts a winter coat drive at its Stryker Lane location through Nov. 29 and Papa John’s and Weichert Realtors are drop-off points for Toys for Tots.
You Need to Know The Board of Education Meets Tonight: At 7:30 p.m. in Auten Road Intermediate School.
