Hillsborough Temple Names Person of Honor
Lillian Swickle recognized, as is Joy Auerbach with youth award.
The Brotherhood of Temple Beth-El Lillian Swickle of Bridgewater this year’s Person of Honor. Swickle currently serves as first vice president.
A past president of the temple’s sisterhood, Swickle has been active in every aspect of temple life for 43 years, making newcomers and long-standing members alike feel welcomed and keeping the temple on track in all of its endeavors, according to a release from the temple. She will become temple president in June 2013.
Swickle will be honored at the brotherhood’s Person of Honor Breakfast on Sunday at 10 a.m. at the temple. The cost for the breakfast is $18 per person. Proceeds from the breakfast support the brotherhood’s youth scholarship fund.
Additional contributions to the fund in Swickle’s honor will also be accepted. The brotherhood annually gives away more than $4,000 to help temple youth attend summer programs or conferences, according to the release. It also provides several merit scholarships to outstanding students as well as other scholarships to youths whose financial need might otherwise preclude their ability to continue their education.
The brotherhood is also honoring Joy Auerbach of Belle Mead with this year's youth award for demonstrating outstanding leadership and volunteer skills.
Auerbach serves as a teacher assistant for Sunday morning Hebrew classes and often chants Torah at services. She will be recognized at services at temple on June 1. All of the temple youths who will be graduating high school this year will also be honored during this service.
