The Hillsborough Police Department will begin participating Friday in the state campaign to crack down on drunk drivers: "Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over."

The campaign, which runs through Sept. 3, will include sobriety checkpoints and roving patrols, looking for motorists who may be intoxicated, according to a statement released by Hillsborough Police.

"The campaign helps to raise awareness about the dangers of drinking and driving through high-visibility enforcement and public education tools, including posters, banners and mobile video display signs," according to the statement.

The program launched in 1999 and aims to "combat drunk driving during some of the busiest travel times of the year," the statement said.
