Vitale's 2 Goals Propel Hillsborough Ice Hockey

Raiders skate to 4-1 victory over winless Hunterdon Central.

The Hillsborough ice hockey team dealt struggling Hunterdon Central its 11th loss of the season with a 4-1 win on Monday.

Hillsborough improved to 6-2-1, while Hunterdon Central dropped to 0-11-1.

Senior forward Alex Vitale netted two goals for the Raiders. His first goal came in the second period at 10:24 and was assisted by sophomore Bradley Bowers.

Vitale notched his second goal in the game in the final minute of the game, sending the puck into an empty net after Hunterdon Central pulled its goalie.

Vitale is the Raiders' leading scorer with 13 points this season.

Senior forward Craig Ismalli got Hillsborough off to a fast start scoring in the first 30 seconds of the game. He gained control of the puck amid the fracas at the Hunterdon Central goal, delivering it through the pipes. Ismalli was assisted by senior forwards Mike LaNeve and Jeff Killian.

Killian recorded the Raiders third goal of the game during a flurry of scoring by both teams in the second period.  After Vitale's first goal, Hunterdon Central's Ryan Amann scored at 9:34 and Killian answerd right back at 8:32.

Hillsborough sophomore goalie Bobby Palzer recorded 15 saves.

The Red Devils will have their chance at a rematch with the Raiders on Feb. 9.

The Raiders will take the ice against Montgomery High School Thursday at Protec Hockey Ponds at 4:15 p.m.
