Fishing for Weekend Activities

Watch out, there are bad puns ahead.

 

Looking for a reel good time this weekend?  Hoping to find something to hook you in?  Or are you just sick of fishing around for some good activities?

Okay.  Puns aside, the Hillsborough Public Library hosts a workshop for beginner anglers this weekend, that covers the basics of fishing.

Not big on fish?  Check out one of these other activities:

‘I Hate Hamlet’ Closing Weekend
Where/When: There will be a special school-time performance on Thursday, May 19 at 10 a.m. as well as 8 p.m. performances on Friday and Saturday and a 2 p.m. performance on Sunday. All shows at the Bickford Theatre in Morris Township.
Why Go: Because you’ve been meaning to make it to the play all month, but know this is your last chance. Or because you hate Hamlet too!
Pricing: $40 for general admission, $36 for senior citizens, $33 for museum members, $20 for students.

Sustainable Morristown Green Building Expo
Where/When: From 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the site of the proposed Morristown EcoCenter, on Thursday and Friday, May 19 and 20.
Why Go: Because exhibitors will highlight green building products and services, focusing on healthy living, organic and local food production, and sustainability.
Pricing: Free.

What’s Cooking With Chef Cynthia Triolo
Where/When: From 1 to 3 p.m. at the Frelinghuysen Arboretum in Morris Township on Sunday, May 22.
Why Go: Because Triolo will focus on locally grown seasonal foods, recipes will be distributed and, most importantly, there will be a tasting.
Pricing: $20 for members, or $25 for non-members.

Warren Township Fishing Derby
Where/When: Saturday, May 21 at 11 a.m. at Dealaman Nature pond.
Why Go:  To reel in a lesson in casting, and to listen to stories of the "one that got away!" Free hotdogs, burgers and hats will be available for all.
Pricing: Free to Warren Township residents. Proof of residency is required.

Boy Scout Car Wash
Where/When:  Saturday, May 21 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Peapack Gladstone Bank parking lot in Warren.
Why Go: To support your local Boy Scouts and ride off shining.
Pricing: Donations are appreciated.

Memorial Day Crafts
Where/When:  Saturday, May 21 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Warren Township Library.
Why Go: To drop in, make a great craft and hang with library friends.
Pricing: Free. Registration is not required.

Improv Comedy Show
Where/When: Friday, May 20 at Bridgewater-Raritan Middle School at 7 p.m.
Why Go: To enjoy laughter and a zany night of improv while helping to send the Odyssey of the Mind team to the World Finals.
Pricing: Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for children, and can be purchased at the door.

Step Up For The Arc Walk & 5K Run
Where/When: Saturday, May 21 at Duke Island Park in Bridgewater from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Why Go: To "step up" and support The Arc of Somerset County help individuals with developmental disabilities. It's a day of fresh air and a great cause.
Pricing: Registration fees are $17 per runner, $15 per USATF runner, and $10 per walker. But fees are waived if you raise $50 or more. 

To Kill a Mockingbird
Where/When:  Friday and Saturday, May 20-21, at 7 p.m. at Hillsborough High School.
Why Go  HHS students along with Atticus understand that, rather than being simply creatures of good or creatures of evil, most people have both good and bad qualities. Enjoy the show!
Pricing: $10 per ticket. 

Beginning Orchids and Greenhouse Tour
Where/When: Saturday, May 21 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Duke Farms in Hillsborough.
Why Go: It's a chance to see more than 1,300 varieties of orchids and learn how to repot one of these amazing plants to bring home.
Pricing: $35 per person. Registration is required. 

All About Fishing
Where/When:  Thursday, May 19 at the Hillsborough Public Library from 7 p.m. to 8:45 p.m.
Why Go: To "catch" a chance at a free fishing rod and "reel" in some tips and secrets on fishing.
Pricing: Free.

Moonlight Walk on the Wild Side
Where/When:  Saturday, May 21 from 7:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. at Duke Farms in Hillsborough.
Why Go: You'll grab a flashlight check out the "wild" things along the trail.
Pricing: Free. Registration is not required.

Autograph Book Day
Where/When: Sunday, May 22 at 1:35 p.m. at TD Bank Ballpark in Bridgewater.
Why Go:  The Five-Time Atlantic League Champion Somerset Patriots compete against the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs.  There will be free autograph books and an opportunity to get your favorite players to sign.
Pricing: $7 to $13.50 per ticket.

GRAB AND GO KIDS PLANNER

Spring Home-School Day at Fosterfields: Communication
Where/When: At Fosterfields Living Historical Farm in Morris Township on Thursday, May 19 from 1 to 3 p.m.
Why Go: Because students can learn about the history of the farm, specifically how the Fosters and the farm residents communicated.
Pricing: $6.

Running Company Beginner Group Runs
Where/When: 6 to 7 p.m. at the Morristown Running Company on Thursday, May 19.
Why Go: Because you are a beginner who wants to start running, regardless of age.
Pricing: Free.

Textile Day
Where/When: 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Historic Speedwell Village in Morristown on Saturday, May 21.
Why Go: Because you’re interested in textiles, want to check out a historic fabric presentation, or want to participate in some hands-on history lessons.
Pricing: $4 for adults, $3 for senior citizens, or $2 for children.

NJ Ballet: Sleeping Beauty
Where/When: At 1:30 p.m. at the Community Theatre in Morristown on Sunday, May 22.
Why Go: Because the tale of Sleeping Beauty will told with narration, the music of Tchaikovsky and ballet.
Pricing: $12.

Charter Day
Where/When: Saturday, May 21 from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. on the streets of Downtown Basking Ridge.
Why Go: To celebrate Bernard's Township 251st anniversary with all day family fun. There will be rides, games and attractions for children of all ages.
Pricing: Free.

Fly With Me!
Where/When: Thursday, May 19 from 4 p.m. to 5:30 pm. at the Lord Stirling Park, Environmental Center in Basking Ridge.
Why Go: To take flight with a variety of build-your-own flying objects.
Pricing: $15 per person. Advanced registration and payment are required.

Paws for Reading
Where/When: Saturday, May 21 from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. at the Bernards Township Library.
Why Go: It's a special storytime with a very special therapy dog from St. Hubert's.
Pricing: Free. Registration is required.

Torah Tots—Honoring Mom and Dad
Where/When: Sunday, May 22 at Temple Har Shalom from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m.
Why Go: It's an important life lesson with singing, crafts, and fun. It's ppen to the entire community, regardless of religious background.
Pricing: Free

Meatball Mania
Where/When: Saturday, May 21 at Wegmans in Bridgewater. There will be two sessions: 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and noon to 2 p.m.
Why Go: To mangia. It's an Italian dinner and desert event made with pride.
Price: $5 per child and parent with Shopper Plus Card, or $10 for child and parent without card.

Celebrate Me!
Where/When:  Saturday, May 21 at the Bridgewater Township Library from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
Why Go:  Children ages 3 through 9 will create colorful self-portraits and will enjoy a special storytime.
Pricing: Free. Registration is required.

Bernardsville Street Fair & Craft Show
Where/When: Sunday, May 22 on the streets of Downtown Bernardsville from 11a.m. to 5 pm.
Why Go: There's music, entertainment, music, activites and more than 200 artists, crafters and vendors.
