The Hillsborough Dukes is launching its 46th year with several important changes to its programs, including free registrations for early signers and the establishment of a Challenger Division for special needs children. 

"Pop Warner's overall goals are to enable young people to benefit from participation in team sports and activities in a safe and structured environment and by establishing a Challenger Division, we are providing that opportunity for everyone to participate in the great game of football and cheer," the Dukes announced in a press release. "Both Challenger cheer and football programs are non-competitive and the football games are modeled after NON-CONTACT Pop Warner flag games."

The organization noted the program will teach working within a team to reach goals, in addition to getting exercise and learning proper techniques from August through October. The division teams will play in eight games against Challenger Division teams from surrounding communities.

Free registration is being offered for all Cheer and Football Programs for families registering before April 15. Registration is available online on the Dukes' website, as well as in-person at the Hillsborough municipal building 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday (Feb. 1) in the Front Multi-Purpose Room; 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Feb. 13 in the Side Multi-Purpose Room; and 9 a.m. to noon Feb. 23 in the Side Multi-Purpose Room.
