After just more than a year since its grand opening in town, Baker's Treat, a non-profit bakery at the corner of Route 206 and Amwell Road, closed its doors on Sunday.
The original Baker’s Treat opened in Flemington’s Turntable Junction in 1999. The bakery's mission was to aid women recovering from substance abuse by offering training in employable skills with all proceeds benefiting women in recovery from substance abuse.
According to its website, Baker's Treat, which opened in Hillsborough in December 2010, also closed its Lambertville location earlier this year.
Patch readers complained last year that the Hillsborough bakery had high prices and questioned the quality of its products.
Gene Strupinsky, Hillsborough's business advocate, felt the high prices may have contributed to the closing of the bakery, which also offered a menu of sandwiches, salads and soups.
"In my opinion, the lack of adequate seating made it primarily for take out and its bakery products were pricey," Strupinsky said.
