Assemblyman Biondi, 69, Dies of Cancer
Hillsborough resident disclosed last month he had non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma.
Two days after winning re-election for an eighth term to the 16th Legislative District, Assemblyman Peter Biondi died Thursday night of cancer. He was 69.
Biondi, a Hillsborough resident, disclosed last month that he was diagnosed last year with non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma. He said last month that the disease was in remission.
In Tuesday's election, Biondi received 19,939 votes and was part of the Republican sweep along with running mate Jack Ciattarelli (R-Hillsborough) and Sen. Christopher Bateman (R-Somerville).
The Republicans will now select a replacement to fill Biondi's seat until a special election is held next November.

I am so saddened to read this first thing this morning. Pete was a friend to many. Everyone knew who "Pete" was when his name was mentioned or by sight. Pete has helped so many people, wanted nothing in return and never wanted to seek credit for what was done to help people. He was intelligent, passionate in his job and anyone who had gotten to know the other side of Pete was a very lucky person! He was a kidder and most times upbeat and proud of his accomplishments. I know he had wanted to continue on with his bills. He was one of the most honest politicians I have ever gotten to know personally. You will be missed Peter. My heart goes out to his family & colleagues & his best friend Murphy.

The Somerset Hills Republican Club is sad to loose this friend and Assemblyman. Pete was always there to listen, to talk and to do. Our sincerest sympathy to his family.

Our Township has lost a great person. Mr.Biondi truly earned the term 'honorable' used in introductions. His visions in the early 80's of what Hillsborough should be along with his actions have given us the great Hillsborough we have today!. Like many others who 'leave' to soon, we can only wonder what the future could have been. Rest in Peace
