"Xtreme Adventure" for Teens - Register May 12

ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION CENTER OFFERS AN

“XTREME ADVENTURE” FOR TEENS

Registration Begins Saturday, May 12, 2012

 

BASKING RIDGE, NJ – The Somerset County Park Commission Environmental Education Center has scheduled a unique summer program series for teens age 13 to 15. “Xtreme Adventure” is an attempt to extract teens from video games and computers and have them enjoy the benefits of the great outdoors. All adventures begin at the Environmental Education Center, 190 Lord Stirling Road in Basking Ridge, NJ – 908-766-2489.

 

Teens will be challenged to an unforgettable adventure as Naturalists lead participants through a series of exciting, educational, and enjoyable day trips.

 

White Water Rafting on Tuesday, July 10 from 8:00 A.M. to 6:00 P.M. will take adventurers west to the Lehigh River to meet a licensed white water rafting guide and a cruise down the rapids, a picnic, and a swim.

Fee is  $100 per person

 

Waterfalls on Tuesday, July 17 from 8:00 A.M. to 5:30 P.M. will take participants on a journey to explore various hiking trails that will lead to hidden waterfalls. Fee is $25 per person

 

Rock Climb on Tuesday, July 24 from 8:00 A.M. to 5:30 P.M. will start with a journey to the Shawangunks, also known as “The Gunks”, in the Catskill Mountain Range to meet a licensed climbing guide and hike a short distance to the rocks! Instruction on climbing, belaying, and repelling will be included. Fee is $175 per person.

 

Kayak on Tuesday, July 31 from 7:00 A.M. to 6:00 P.M. will take adventurers south to the Wading River in the Pine Barrens to learn how to wet exit a kayak, discover proper kayak strokes, and finally put the skills to the test. Fee is  $50 per person.

 

Hike and Swim on Tuesday, August 7 from 8:00 A.M. to 5:30 P.M. will take travellers on a hike to a section of the most famous trail on the east coast, the Appalachian Trail, for a walk in the footsteps of numerous famous hikers. Teens will learn the proper technique for following trail markers before being rewarded with a cool, refreshing swim at Crater Lake, a glacial lake at the top of the Kittatinny Ridge located in the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area. Fee is $25 per person.

 

Sedge Island Overnight from 8:00 A.M. on Tuesday, August 14 to 5:30 P.M. on Wednesday, August 15. Will be a journey to an isolated section of New Jersey’s largest estuary, Barnegat Bay for  kayaking, snorkeling, fishing, birding, crabbing, star gazing, and more. The Sedge House is a rustic bunk room style lodge with Clivus toilets and no showers. Teens are sure to have a blast but are also expected to help with group chores.. Fee is $200 per person.
