38th ANNUAL ROSE DAY AT THE ROSE GARDEN AT COLONIAL PARK
FRANKLIN TOWNSHIP, NJ - On Saturday, June 9, 2012 from 10:00 A.M. to 3:00 P.M., rose lovers will gather at the Rudolf W. van der Goot Rose Garden on Mettlers Road (Parking Lot A) in the East Millstone section of Franklin Township’s Colonial Park to commemorate the 38th annual Rose Day Celebration.
Having undergone a complete renovation, completed in 2010, the Rose Garden and the Fragrance and Sensory Garden now have new irrigation systems, walkways, and arbors. The Horticulture staff has selected and planted hundreds of new rose varieties to prepare the garden for the celebration on Rose Day.
The stunning display garden will feature more than 3,000 roses representing over 325 varieties including the award winning All-America Rose Selections. A series of free lectures and demonstrations on rose growing and other horticultural topics will accompany the display. Roses, perennials, annuals, and native and woody ornamental plants will be for sale by Rutgers Gardens. Members of the Jersey Shore Rose Society will be available to answer any rose questions and sell cut roses.

The Rudolf W. van der Goot Rose Garden is one acre in size and contains more than 3,000 roses of 325 varieties. As an accredited All-America Rose Selections (AARS) display garden, it is entitled to display AARS award-winning roses one year before their release to the public. The garden was named in honor of Rudolf W. van der Goot, the first horticulturist with the Somerset County Park Commission, as a tribute to his efforts in designing and developing the garden.
From late spring through fall, the roses present a kaleidoscope of color, form, and fragrance. Visitors can view popular modern hybrids, species, and various classes of Old Garden Roses. All roses are clearly labeled for easy identification and only roses that thrive in central NJ are kept in the garden.
